On 9 January 2026, the Sentinel-2 satellite looked down on Death Valley National Park and found a pale alluvial fan spilling from the mountains onto the valley floor, its braided drainage channels fanning out like veins across the basin, dark bedrock ridges breaking through the sediment on either side — a study in erosion rendered almost monochrome.
