The satellite traced the St. Lawrence shore in Quebec and found a 350-year-old land-division system still shaping the landscape: narrow ribbon farms running perpendicular to the river, each one reaching back from the water in a strip barely wider than a city lot. The turquoise river carries a pale sediment shoal just offshore, the coastline combed into rhythm by three and a half centuries of the same rule.
