On 7 June 2026, the Sentinel-2 satellite looked down on the Timmins gold mining district in northeastern Ontario — one of the most productive gold camps in Canadian history, still active more than a century after its first strike. An open pit and its turquoise tailings pond cut a pale wound into the boreal forest beside the town grid.
